The Rack: for the Culture
House of Culture and Body Prayers are teaming up to do a plus-size clothing drive for “The Rack” North High.
Long time North Minneapolis resident Jalisa Ross runs THE RACK at North Community High school. THE RACK is basically a thrift shop and clothing store where students can come and get what they need free of charge. Jalisa has a recently made it known that she is in need of fashionable, cute, good looking, rizzy plus size gear for THE RACK. Many of the students who are in need of the services that THE RACK offers are in need of some bigger size, clothing, accessories, undergarments, and more, and she's had to turn folks away empty handed 😔.
HOUSE OF CULTURE is an anti-capitalist Black space for cultural arts and Black liberation. BodyPrayers by DejaJoelle is a Black healing space, a place for body reclamation and conjuring new realities.
We are all teaming up to do a plus size clothing drive the week of October 30 through November 3.
If you are a big bodied individual, this is a perfect time to clean out your closet and go through your gently used and maybe never worn items to drop off a bag or a box. If you’re not a plus size person yourself, consider purchasing a plus size item: a new sports bra and panty set, boxers, briefs, leggings, athletic wear, or accessories in sizes 2X and larger. Theres a need for big belts as well.
You can bring your donations to North High to drop off at door 30, off of Knox and 15th from 1p-3p October 31-Nov 3.
OR drop off donations any time at HOUSE OF CULTURE.
Reach out to Kenna at 612-481-6447 or email KennaJean13@gmail.com to arrange a drop off time.
If you need us to pick your stuff up let Kenna know and an HoC artist will make arrangements.
When this drive closes, we will sort through the items, process them, and get the best ones into rotation in THE RACK. Any residual items will be processed at HOUSE OF CULTURE. HOUSE OF CULTURE will start having open hours in November so stay tuned for that information. Visit www.voiceofculture.org and click on House of Culture for more info.
